The Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum is pleased to announce a special sale of baskets made by renowned basket maker, Manny Dias on Monday, August 12, 2019 from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
After a career spanning several decades, renowned Nantucket basket maker Manny Dias retired from basket making last year. The contents of his inventory have been acquired by the Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum and are being offered to the public in this special, one-time-only sale. This is an opportunity to own a piece of Nantucket history crafted by one of Nantucket’s best loved artists.
On offer are a wide selection of sizes and styles, many with exotic woods. In addition to open round baskets in a wide variety of sizes, there are trays, nests, tote bags, wine caddies, salt and pepper shaker holders, and a rare side table. The prices are as varied as the inventory, ranging from $100 – $1,000. All proceeds will benefit the Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum, on whose Board of Directors Mr. Dias served for many years. “This collection of baskets represents a lifetime of work by Manny Dias,” said the museum’s Executive Director, Andrea Wulffleff. “He has been such an important part of the museum from its beginning and we are thrilled to be able to showcase his talent and raise money for the museum at the same time.”
